The Saffron Lane surgery is the original site for the Park Veterinary Group and provides full surgical and medical care for your pets.
It is a busy first opinion practice and has been new refurbished in July 2013.

3 vets, 3 nurses and 3 receptionists work at Saffron Lane, with vets Gareth Jones and Jane Yeates, nurse Lucy Costelloe and receptionist Jane Shute working at the Saffron Lane surgery for over 20 years each!

The small animal side of the Park Vet Group operates from 5 sites. Four of these are stand-alone clinics of 3-6 vets each, and one is a dedicated branch surgery for consulting and routine operations.

The four main surgeries are self-sufficient for all routine first opinion work and have their own fixed veterinary teams, promoting continuity for clients, and also for the vets the opportunity to work in a small close-knit unit, but with the back-up, expertise and free time that you only get from a multi-person practice. There is a strong ethos within the Park Vet Group to encourage continual professional development (CPD) which is viewed as a benefit for staff and clients alike.

“We work together as a team to ensure all our staff are kept up to date and motivated to do their best for you and your pet”
Joyce Thomas, Practice Manager.

Gareth JonesPartner, veterinary surgeon

Gareth, that’s me, qualified in 1986, yes that is nearly 30 years ago. It never ceases to amaze me how much I have learned in all that time and how much I thought I knew when I was a 23 year old newly qualified vet. There has never been a boring day at work. I have managed to fill my time working initially as a general mixed vet then working for a year in a Charity clinic gaining great surgical experience. I then concentrated on gaining extra qualifications as an ophthalmologist, working at the Royal Veterinary College as Resident in Ophthalmology with the prestigious Professor Peter Bedford. This gave me respect and grounding in being able to do referral work, difficult to treat cases sent from other vets. I returned to the Park Veterinary Group in 1995 to become a Partner of the business. 20 years have nearly rushed by and we’ve grown the Group to a massive extent creating a wonderful team of people around us. My days are filled dealing with eye cases, helping run the practice and my nights doing the odd calving which I still very much enjoy. In my spare time I teach ophthalmology to veterinary students at Nottingham Vet school, running the course since 2007. I’m my real spare time, I have my family, my dog Hayley, my friends, cricket and sailing to keep me sane.

    Jane YeatesAssociate Veterinary Surgeon

Jane qualified from Bristol University in 1984 and has been working at the Park Vet Group since 1991, having previously worked at various practices in the UK and for the RSPCA in Melbourne, Australia. She is married with a son and a daughter, one a teenager, the other about to become one. The family all supports the Leicester Tigers and includes a very cuddly Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Jane likes to relax with a good book, once she has discharged her duties as chief cook, bottle washer and part time taxi service for her children. She became a veterinary associate in 2007, produces the small animal newsletter and information leaflets and works part time at the Saffron Lane surgery. She is an experienced small animal general practitioner, interested in both medicine and surgery. Jane also does out of hours farm work and has a particularly good success rate with bovine caesarians.

      Charlotte WrightVeterinary Surgeon

Charlotte (Charlie) Wright graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2008 and after a short time in mixed practice in Kent joined the Park Veterinary Group in June 2009 as a mixed practitioner. She spent her first two years at the Whetstone Surgery but has now joined the team at our Saffron Lane surgery. Her farm interest means that she is also able to offer practical advice on the more unusual pets we encounter including pet pigs and chickens.

We employ highly trained, approachable, compassionate and considerate staff using the most modern facilities.
